Review-a-day #18 - New First Issues: Iron Man 2.0 #1

Tuesday, March 29, 2011 by Travis

Yeah I know this isn't exactly a "new" series as the second issue is already out, but I have been meaning to review it for at least a couple weeks. Can Nick Spencer be stopped? The man's been on some kind of roll recently. Morning Glories (review coming soon, I swear) has been a sensation, THUNDER Agents has been a refreshing break every month, his Image work has all been phenomenal..and don't even get me started on The Infinite Vacation. I know some people are upset that this book is called "Iron Man 2.0" versus "War Machine", but I figure as long as the inside is good, who cares?

Story:

Nick Spencer continues to pump out great story after great story. He does a really great job here of differentiating Rhodey from Tony, both in their suits and in their personalities. From there he does a great job setting up Rhodey's new M.O. for all of his upcoming adventures. I liked the whole mystery thing he is setting up, and I really enjoyed the spy-adventure-thriller feel the book has going for it.

8/10

Art:

For me the weakest part of this first issue was the art, and I think this will change once I read the second issue. I know Barry Kitson was sick and that's why Kano and di Giandomenico had to step in and do some of the art, but it still threw me off a little in terms of figuring out all of the characters. Once I see a full Kitson issue, I am sure that I will quickly come to like the art very much as his pencils looked very good in this first issue.

7/10

Overall

I think this did a great job of getting me interested in all of the future story potential. I think once I see the second issue I will be along for the ride. All in all a good, solid issue.
