Review-a-day #14 - New First Issues: Venom #1

Let me just say that anything with Rick Remender and Tony Moore involved is always going to be a guaranteed buy for me. I love Remender's wacky action-packed ideas, and Tony Moore is simply on of the top 5 artists in comics right now. For these reasons I was not at all worried about the new Venom series and picked it up without hesitation.

Story:

Just like he did with Deadpool, Rick Remender has shown that all characters can be interesting and work in a story when actually THINK ABOUT THE CHARACTER! Throw in the new rules for wearing the suit, Flash's psychological and substance abuse problems, and some special ops...sprinkle in a little Jack-O-Lantern (an awesome villain) and some mystery...and what do you get? A compelling and interesting read that makes you want to pick up the next book. This is the beauty in Rick Remender's writing, and why he should be considered among the very upper echelon of current comic creators.

Art:

After a while you just seem to run out of words to describe certain artists in comics. Tony Moore's work speaks for itself...Walking Dead, Fear Agent, Franken-Castle, and now Venom...he ALWAYS brings his A-game and never writes it in. I love the new look of the venom suit, and the action packed fight scenes are his bread and butter.

9/10

Overall:

This was a very good first issue, and even if I wasn't committed to the creative team, I would definitely still be looking to pick this up next month! A definite buy in my books!
