Deadline has just reported that Showtime has apparently bought a script for Chew, on of my favorite series right now. The script was written by Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer or Eureka! fame and is now undergoing tweaks from the Showtime writing staff.
This is good new on many fronts. First, this is one of my favorite series of all time...it is quite possibly the most interesting idea to come to comics in a long time, and is masterfully pulled off by Layman and Guillory every month. Second, Showtime is one of my favorite TV stations...Dexter, Weeds, Californication...many of my favorite series are on this channel and they tend to put some real effort into their shows. Third, this should be a big paycheck to 2 creators who are greatly deserving of it. So many independent writers put such love into their work and it is always nice to see them justly rewarded.
Hopefully this news will come to fruition and we will be seeing Chew grace the small screen in just a short while. and hopefully this is the first of many comics-based works Showtime (and similar channels like HBO and USA) will be looking to develop...can I Y:The Last Man? Ex-Machina? Fear Agent? who knows...
Oh, and if you haven't checked out Chew...DO SO NOW!! You won't regret it!!!
